Choose Claude if your work is writing, analysis, code and files. Its Cowork sessions work through the folders and desktop apps you point them at, and Claude in Chrome acts in your own browser. Claude starts at $20 a month and Sidekick Pro at $59, and both now do more than talk. In September 2026 Anthropic merged Claude and Cowork into one app, so Claude can work through the folders you choose, connect to Gmail and Google Calendar, and run scheduled tasks in the cloud while your computer sleeps.
The two products still answer different questions. Claude is the best reasoner you can hand a long document, a codebase or a folder of files. Who starts the work
Claude
Claude is a place you go. Its connectors read Gmail, Google Calendar, Drive, Microsoft 365 and Slack when you ask, and scheduled tasks can run in the cloud on a timer you set. Nothing watches your inbox and tells you what needs you today.
Sidekick Pro
Sidekick Pro reads every new email and calendar change as it arrives, alerts you only when something matters, and sends a daily brief. See Smart Inbox. It drafts the reply or starts the task, and nothing goes out without your OK.
Files, the desktop and the browser
Claude
This is Claude's strongest ground. A Cowork session works through the folders you point it at, uses a sandboxed shell and can drive your desktop apps. Claude in Chrome clicks, types and fills in forms in your own browser with your logins, and since August 2026 it runs as a full Cowork session in the Chrome side panel. The newest pieces reach Max and Team plans before Pro, and everything draws from one shared usage pool.
Sidekick Pro
Sidekick Pro works in the Chrome you already use, through its Chrome extension, with the logins you already have. For long jobs it hands the work to a private cloud browser that keeps going with your laptop closed. You can start a web task by voice or from your phone, and other agents can drive your signed-in browser through MCP Remote Control.
Phone calls, texts and meetings
Claude
Claude does not answer a phone line or text your customers, and it does not join a video call. Voice mode lets you talk to Claude on the web and on your phone, but the conversation is with you, not with the person calling your business.
Sidekick Pro
On every plan, Sidekick Pro gets its own phone number. The AI receptionist answers calls and texts, books appointments, confirms them and transfers the calls that need you. On the Business plan the meeting assistant joins your Zoom and Google Meet calls, takes notes and follows up.
Models and memory
Claude
Claude runs on Anthropic's models only. They are excellent, and for long documents and code they are often the best choice, but your subscription buys one family of models. Memory is shared between chat and Cowork, so what Claude learns in one place is there in the other.

Claude Tag, in beta since June 2026 on Team and Enterprise plans, puts one Claude in a Slack channel that anyone can hand work to. For a Slack-first team that is a genuinely good shared agent.

Does Sidekick Pro use Claude?
Yes. Sidekick Pro runs on Anthropic's Claude models as well as OpenAI's GPT and Google's Gemini. You pick one, or let Auto choose the best model for each request. One subscription covers all of them.
Can Claude read my Gmail and calendar?
Yes, through its connectors, when you ask it to. Claude connects to Gmail, Google Calendar, Drive, Microsoft 365 and Slack. It does not watch your inbox on its own. Sidekick Pro reads each new email as it arrives and alerts you only when something needs you.
Can Claude answer my business phone?
No. Claude does not give you a phone number or answer calls. Every Sidekick Pro plan includes an AI receptionist on its own number that answers calls and texts, books appointments and transfers calls to you.
Which one works in my own browser?

For writing and debugging code, yes. Claude's models sit behind Claude Code, and the Cowork session can work through a repository on your machine. Sidekick Pro has a code sandbox for small jobs, but it is built for operations, not for shipping software.

Claude has a free plan, Pro at $20 a month, Max from $100 and Team at $25 a seat from two seats. Sidekick Pro has Personal at $59 a month for one person, with the phone line and texts, and Business at $149 for a whole team, with meetings and the coding agent. Sidekick Pro has no free plan or trial, and Business is one flat price however many members you invite.
Can I use both?
